Halcyon Days
|
Enamelling on copper was a classic English craft. In the second half of the 18th Century this craft flourished. Although it slowly declined and almost stopped completely by the 1830s. Although this was very popular for less than 100 years many different types of enamels were made but the best known item is the small keepsakes boxes.
In 1970 Halcyon Days Enamels introduced the little keepsakes boxes and other enamel items which were made in England. Halcyon Days had an antique shop located in London's Mayfair. This for many years had been one of very few shops to specialise in Georgian enamels from international dealers. It is believed it was this shop which helped bring about the revival of the English enamelling on copper craft. Halcyon Days Enamels are one of the few descendants of the 18th century English craft. Halcyon Days are said to become the antiques of the future as they are either gifts of love and sentiment or collected as little pieces of art. Retailing of these products is highly selective and this is why they are so collectable. |
